Taking Over the Hydraulic Power Plant / Rescue the Rookie Squadron

Mission 13: Operation Power Play – July 21st, 1998
Mission 14: Operation Green Bird (Legacy Version)

Overview [AC2]: Scarface Squadron conducts a bombing run on the Waiapolo Lake hydro-electric dam facility. Their objective is to destroy all URF fortifications around the dam without damaging any of the facilities which provide power for much of north eastern Usea.

Overview [AHL]: Scarface Squadron is scrambled on an emergency sortie to rescue an Allied training squadron off the coast of Scofield that has come under attack by URF forces and another mysterious Z.O.E. fighter.

So as you can see here, we have another pair of missions that are unique to each game, yet still throw you up against a Z.O.E. just for the hell of it.

Also with these missions we have officially hit the halfway point of both Ace Combat 2 and Assault Horizon Legacy. From here, the game splits into two different mission paths codenamed “Alphaville” and “Belisima” before lining up for the final 4 endgame missions.

For that, we’re going to be following the Legacy mission numbering scheme and following the Alphaville path first, followed by Belissima. That way I’m not throwing four—and in some cases six—videos at you at a time trying to cover both paths in both games.

This also means, for the few of you who care, that we’re gonna be telling the timeline to go fuck itself temporarily because while Legacy counts Alphaville first then Belissima in its mission orders, the A and B missions are shown taking place within days of one another. So we’re just going to toss all that nonsense for a little bit, because this game has already put me in the hospital, I don’t need it putting me in psychiatric care too.

Guest Commentator: Joining me for these this mission is kalonZombie. The Legacy version is co-commentatorless because I didn't feel like holding it back when I have the footage already available.

kalon has an utterly massive catalog of LPs to his name, including every goddamn Ratchet & Clank game in existence, with the exception of the PSP spin offs (Size Matters, and Secret Agent Clank), Ratchet: Deadlocked, the 2016 soft reboot, and Full Frontal Assault. He’s also done Portal 1 & 2, Journey, God of War, Tomb Raider (2013), and Batman: Arkham Asylum (with Ape Has Killed Ape and The Heavenator), among others. He also provided the Battle of Endor DLC for Trizophenie and Simply Simon’s LP of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

He is currently LPing God of War II, and is the “curator” of sorts of the Bad Games megathread, for which he contributed LPs of Star Trek (2009) and Batman: Dark Dawn.

A third Z.O.E. fighter was encountered by the Allied Forces Scarface Tactical Fighter Squadron Waiapolo Lake/the Scofield coastline. Unlike the previous two planes encountered by SFTFS, this one was a modern 5th generation fighter sporting a suite of advanced avionics. Its behavior was also markedly different than its two previous encounters, calling into question whether or not the Allies were dealing with the same pilot.

Once again, the red Z.O.E. fighter sported a black-tinted cockpit, thus making identification (or even confirmation) of its pilot impossible. Due to its aggressive and unpredictable posture in combat and its ability to perform maneuvers way in excess of normal human force tolerance levels, Allied Intelligence postulates that this red fighter may actually be [INFORMATION REDACTED].

Investigation is ongoing.
